DVD – The Pike and I
After making more than 75 television shows together, including The Great Rod Race, Wet Nets and Record Breaking Fish, no-one else could have got to know me better than my close angling buddy Matt Hayes who has filmed, funded and edited this one hour insight into my obsession with this predatory fish. Never before broadcast on television, the filming and editing has taken two years to complete.
Of course it features me fishing for pike, but The Pike and I is so much more than that. It features archive from my roots in Birmingham, England, and the script centres around my early life and how this obsession with the pike developed. Narrated by Matt, it has evolved into a fascinating biography which I am proud to look back upon.
The film follows me on a series of fishing trips, as well as visiting some of the places from my past. From the river Wye to the industrial heart of Birmingham, The Pike and I is a documentary that stretches the boundaries of traditional fishing films. The soundtrack is diverse and inspiring to fit the changes of mood and emotion that Matt has captured.
In short, within its genre, it is truly unique: an angling film with a script, and one that will entertain anglers and non-anglers alike.
